Porter Cable Polishers
Porter Cable Polishers

Porter Cable Polisher The Porter Cable Orbital Polisher / Sander offers a random orbit pattern that eliminates any trace of a swirl mark. By combining the motion of a disc polisher with an orbital type motion, the machine is so mistake proof, anyone can use it.

Intended primarily for automotive detailing and boat maintenance, the Porter Cable Orbital has the ability to remove light to medium swirls/scratches and light oxidation. It is also ideal for follow-up polishing after more serious flaw removal.

An orbital polisher head oscillates, as opposed to rotating. It moves in an up-down-back-and-forth pattern, which eliminates the possibility of the extreme heat generated by rotary polishers. Orbital polishers do not run the risk of paint "burning" which makes them ideal for novices and detail enthusiasts.

The Porter Cable Orbital is easy to maneuver and performs well on any type of paint, metal, fiberglass or Gelcoat. The best description is "mimicking hand application at extreme speeds!"

Porter Cable Random Orbit FAQ:

The #7424 and the #7424XP come with a #5 counterweight and a 5" polishing pad. They must have a #6 counterweight if you use them with pads over 5".

What is a Counterweight?

The counterweight is a half-moon shaped piece of metal attached to the rotating shaft of the tool. This smoothes out the random orbit action by providing a counter balance to the elliptical orbit of the rotating backing pad.

If you go up in pad size, you should also change the counterweight to avoid unnecessary vibration. The different counter-weight sizes are clearly marked.
